New Faculty
Applying to Live at UFH
Applicant List
Our lease year runs from August 1 to July 31. As a result, housing turnover is most frequent in summer, for later summer occupancy (July, August). Occasionally, housing becomes available at other times of the year (eg. November or December).
The 2022 summer/fall applicant list opened on December 1, 2021. The 2023 summer/fall application list will open on December 1, 2022. We will return to the application list in March and invite all applicants to provide us with any adjustments or updates to their applications. Drawing from this updated list, summer housing offers will commence in April.
On occasion, housing becomes available at other times of the year (e.g. November, December) and we keep a small and time-limited application list for winter appointees (e.g. January 1).
Apply for faculty housing
If you think that Faculty Housing may be for you, please contact us for an application form.
After Applying
Once we receive your application we will confirm your place on the applicant list. Reach out to us anytime thereafter, if you have changes to make, or to answer any questions you may have. If you are planning to visit the University prior to commencing employment, we would be happy to speak with you about New Faculty Housing.
Important: Applicants from outside the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) will be given priority over applicants who are already living here.
How quickly one is offered housing depends on a number of factors, including:
- Position on applicant list
- Date of application
- Appointment date
- Unit size requested
- Availability of unit
- Applicant’s preferred move-in date
You are not obligated to accept any housing and can notify us to withdraw from the applicant list at any time. We do not carry over list applicants from one year/applicant list, to the next.
Housing Offer
Should you be offered housing, you will be provided with details of the unit, photographs, a floor plan, and offered, when possible, a personal tour of the unit. You will be given one week in which to make a decision. Due to the demand and the limited number of units available, it is very likely that you will be offered only one unit.
Housing offers are void if the nature of your appointment to the University does not meet the criteria of the New Faculty Housing program. We confirm all appointments with the Office of the Vice Provost, Faculty and Academic Life.
We also strongly recommend that you become familiar with the Toronto housing and rental market in the event that an offer of Faculty Housing is not made, or in the event that the offer does not suit your needs. There are many resources available on the Internet; another source of useful information is the University’s Faculty Relocation Service. Their website is http://www.facultyrelocation.utoronto.ca
Accepting Housing
If you accept an offer of housing, an Occupancy Agreement, along with other important information concerning our Cooperative Housing Program, will be forwarded to you. The Agreement must be signed and returned to us along with a non-refundable housing charge deposit in Canadian funds.
