about our community
The Charles Street Community consists of two high-rise buildings located on the north-east side of the St. George campus. Built in 1969, the buildings house approximately two thousand adults and children. There are several hundred children, and roughly sixty percent of the students are international, hailing from sixty different countries!

Residents in Ontario have the right to keep pets, but the laws governing this include exceptions and conditions. In fact, many residents in our buildings happily keep pets.
Smoking is not permitted in your apartment and balcony, lobbies, halls, laundry rooms, elevators, shared/public spaces, parking garage, or the Rooftop Garden.
Because we are a residence for students with families, and there is a large population of children here, we have implemented a Non-Smoking Policy in apartments for all families moving in on or after January 1, 2013. The term “smoking” means inhaling, exhaling, burning or carrying any lighted cigar, cigarette, e-cigarette, vaporizer, bong, joint, smoking tobacco, cannabis, or any drug in any inhaled form is prohibited.
Current residents who signed a lease on or prior to December 31, 2012, will not have signed a non-smoking lease. They are not forbidden to smoke unless they are interfering with their neighbours’ right to reasonable enjoyment of their own apartment.
The health risks to adults as well as children and pregnant women exposed to second hand smoke is a serious concern. Accordingly, we ask that smokers leave the building to smoke outdoors 9 metres away from the entrances so that the smoke does not circulate through the ventilation system.
Our downtown Toronto location offers lively surroundings with a variety of activities. However, please be aware of potential construction noise and other urban sounds, as noise can easily travel within the buildings. If you are sensitive to noise, make sure to specify your apartment location preference in your application or via email to the Admissions Office before accepting an apartment. You may want to request a unit on a higher floor or one located away from elevators, the laundry room, or mechanical rooms.
