Payment Options
We are happy to offer the following options for paying rent and other expenditures:
Cheque, Bank Drafts & Money Order
Certified cheques, money orders and bank drafts are accepted for first and last month’s rent. Personal cheques can be used for rent once moved in.
What it can pay for

- Incidentals (Replacement laundry card, FOBs, etc.)
Point of Sale – Canadian Debit
In-person payment at the Residence Office (9:00am – 4:45pm, Monday – Friday) with ID. Currently, our POS machine only accepts Canadian debit.

- Incidentals (Replacement laundry card, FOBs, etc.)
Pre-Authorized
Debit (PAD)
An automatic deduction from your bank account monthly. This form of payment can only be used for expenses that occur on a regular basis.
What it can pay for
- Monthly rent
- Parking
Cheque, Bank Draft, & Money Order
Cheques can only be submitted by those who are listed on the lease. Money orders can be obtained at the Post Office or Western Union.
Residents can pay for the following by cheque, bank draft, or money order:

- Replacement laundry cards
- Key replacement
- Lock replacement
- Replacement FOBs
- AC removal and installation fees
- Damages

Using Cheques to Pay for Rent
- Submit rent on or before the 1st day of every month to the Residence Office in person, or by dropping your cheque in the drop-off box located outside the office, just to the left of the door.
- Submit post-dated cheques for the 1st day of every month for several months in advance. This will ensure your rent is paid on the 1st day of every month.
- We do not accept 3rd person payment for cheques. Please ensure a leaseholder’s name is on the envelope/cheque along with the building and unit number.
Point of Sale – Canadian Debit
We are excited to now offer a Point-of-Sale (POS) machine for Canadian Debit cards! During office hours (9:00 am – 4:45pm, Monday – Friday).
Residents can pay for the following items in-person at the Residence Office:
- Monthly rent
- Parking
- Small balances owing on account
- Replacement laundry cards
- Key replacement
- Lock replacement
- Replacement FOBs
- AC removal and installation fees
- Damages
- Key deposit
Identification is required for payment to be processed. Please ensure the payment limit of your debit card can cover the balance you are paying for.
Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD)
By signing up for PAD you authorize the University of Toronto to automatically deduct your rent and parking costs from your bank account monthly. The amount withdrawn will be the rent as indicated on the lease of the Notice of Rent Increase. For Parking it will be the amount on the Parking Addendum or the Notice of Increase.
How to sign up for PAD
- PAD agreements are available from the Residence Office and must be signed and submitted in person. Agreements are not to be faxed, mailed, or emailed.
- To initiate a PAD, the University will require your account number and the numeric codes that identify your financial institution and the specific branch where your account is held
- This information can be easily provided by attaching a void cheque (marked “void” and unsigned). Alternatively, you can obtain a form from your bank providing this information.
- The withdrawal will take place on the first business day of the month (providing it is not a University or bank holiday). These dates are shown on the schedule below.
- NSFs from Pre-Authorized Debits will have a $30 fee charged to the resident.
- Sign-up for PAD must take place at minimum 10 business days before the rent is due/withdrawal takes place as per the schedule.
