University family housing

Community Life

Living at UFH is so much more than just housing. There is a rich community life and many resources waiting for you to take part in! Programs are reserved exclusively for UFH residents and are designed to boost both mental and physical wellbeing.

Our Programs

Adult-focused

Coordinated by Residence Advisors along with subject matter experts, these programs are designed for our adult population’s enjoyment. From building language skills to expressing creativity through arts, there’s something for everyone.

Child-Focused

Coordinated by Early Childhood Educators and work-study staff, these programs give UFH kids a place to have fun and socialize after school and on weekends. This wide variety of programming includes everything from arts and crafts, STEM, dance, and more.

Family-Focused

Many UFH programs are designed for both adults and children to enjoy together. These range from field trips to places like water parks and apple orchards, to local activities like attending Varsity Blues games and going on nature walks through nearby parks.

BETTER TOGETHER

Huron-Sussex Community Life

Although the majority of UFH programs and events are held at the Charles Street Community (30 and 35 Charles Street West), they are always open to residents at Huron-Sussex to join.

UFH hosts several dedicated outdoor events for Huron-Sussex residents in the spring and fall seasons.

The Drop-In Centre

Programs for Early Years

The Drop-In Centre offers adult/child play-based learning experiences which are the key for development in early years. These programs are designed specifically for children 5 years and under by Early Childhood Educators at UFH.

Physical Movement

Group Exercise Classes

These all-level programs build strength, improve flexibility, and boost your overall health.

Please Note: Many of our group exercise classes are extremely popular. There is a waitlist with the new intake beginning at the start of each semester. A program coordinator will contact you once a spot becomes available.

see you there!

Annual Events

Each year the Community Life team offers wonderful events for both our Charles Street and Huron-Sussex communities.

Community
socials

Throughout the year, UFH hosts socials for residents to come together and get to know their neighbours. These socials range from community wide events with ice cream trucks and activities, to smaller get togethers over pastries and coffee.

Rooftop
Festivals

In spring and fall, we celebrate with a party on our rooftop garden. These Rooftop Festivals have seasonal activities like gardening or pumpkin decorating, as well as face painting, games, cotton candy, and more!

Haunted
Halloween

Put on your Halloween costume and dive into the festivities, including a spooky tour through our “Haunted House”, snacks, crafts, face painting, trick-or-treat giveaways, a dance party, and more!

Our Team

Community Life at University Family Housing is made up of Housing Life Coordinators (HLC), Residence Advisors, Early Childhood Educators, Workstudy Students, and Volunteers. Together they work to enhance your experience living at UFH by creating an inclusive, supportive, and engaging environment.

Residence Advisors

The Charles Street community is divided into seven communities, each with its own Residence Advisor, who is a resident of University Family Housing and a U of T student. Residence Advisors (RAs) are responsible for orienting new residents to the building, educating their communities on policies and available resources, running relevant programming, and community building.
