Reminder to Remove Items in Hallway

This is a reminder that discarding items or storing things such as strollers and shoes in the hallways outside of your units, in stairwells and communal areas, is not permitted. All hallways are fire exits and these items pose a safety concern by creating an obstruction that may impede residents’ ability to safely exit the building as well as emergency personnels’ ability to respond. Items left in the hall can also result in personal injury and are particularly hazardous for children as they may fall or become a choking hazard. Beyond safety concerns, leaving items in the hall creates pest issues, prevents proper cleaning of public areas, and leaves residents vulnerable to theft.

Items left in the hall violate the Ontario Fire code. Residents who fail to comply with Fire Code regulations are breaking the terms of their lease and will be reported to UFH Operations who will notify residents to immediately remove their items. Anything that is garbage, infested, or deemed an imminent safety risk will be disposed of without notice.  Repeated notices to remove items may lead to the issuance of a Notice of Eviction. Residents may also be subject to disciplinary action and fines from the City of Toronto Fire Services.

. We encourage residents to donate gently used items to the Free Store, located on the 3rd floor of 30 Charles for the benefit of other families. For information on how to properly dispose of garbage at Charles Street, please visit our website

Thank you for doing your part to keep our community safe and clean for all the families who live here.
