Acceptable Free Store Donations 

Our Free Store staff have noticed an increase in donations that cannot be accepted. Donating items is a very environmentally friendly way of giving to others, however, if your items are dirty, broken, damaged or too large they cannot be accepted. For the most part, we accept any good-quality, clean and small items or clothing. Below is a list of some acceptable and unacceptable donations: 

ACCEPTED DONATIONS

  • Air conditioners (small sizes) 
  • Arts & crafts 
  • Baby cribs 
  • BOOKS (no course readers) 
  • Cassettes, CDs & records 
  • Chairs (small sizes) 
  • Clothing (all types) 
  • Jewellery 
  • Lamps 

UNACCEPTED DONATIONS:

  • Box springs 
  • Building materials 
  • Car seats 
  • Ceiling light fixtures 
  • Diapers 
  • Encyclopedias 
  • Food 
  • Rugs, carpets or padding 
  • Sofas or couches

Upcoming Family Care Office Events  

U of T Families Celebrate Lunar New Year 

Date: Friday, January 27 2023  
Time: 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM 
Location: Cheng Yu Tung East Asian Library, 8th floor, Robarts Library 

The Family Care Office and the Cheng Yu Tung East Asian Library invite U of T community members and their families to celebrate Lunar New Year. U of T community members will share about ways of celebrating, and activities will be available for children. Join us to learn more about various traditions, and to celebrate Lunar New Year! Food will be generously provided by the East Asian Library. 

Registration required; spaces are limited and on a first-come, first-served basis. Register early to avoid disappointment, and by January 24 at the latest. To register, email family.care@utoronto.ca and include your name, status with U of T, and ages of all participating family members. 

Interfaith Harmony Week: Faith & Family Fun Day 

Date: Monday, February 6, 2023 
Time: 2:30 – 4:30 pm 
Location: Multi-Faith Centre – Main Activity Hall, 569 Spadina Ave 

Interfaith work, in its broadest sense, is bringing people from diverse faiths together, making connections, and becoming a community of support for one another. In honour of Interfaith Harmony Week, the Family Care Office and the Multi-Faith Centre are pleased to offer an afternoon dedicated to celebrating and honouring our diverse community through inclusive activities. These include friend-building exercises, plant potting, banner decorating, board games, and light snacks. Students are encouraged to drop-by on their own or with their respective family. Children of all ages are welcome. 

Registration: This event is for student families; students must register on CLNX and then email family.care@utoronto.ca with the names and ages of all attendees.
