Earth Week 2024

Beginning on March 18th and ending on March 23rd during Earth Hour, join us for a week of events and activities focused on our planet and sustainability! Register for one event or them all, either way we look forward to celebrating planet Earth with you!
Registration for all events opens Monday, March 11th, 2024 at 9 am. Please be mindful that a recreation account is needed to register, and the account approval process on our system takes 2-3 days, so creating your account before registration opens is advised.
March 18th: Houseplant Workshop (adults 18+)
Time & Location: 7:00pm – 8:30pm, Recreation Room (2nd Floor, 35 Charles Street West)
Growing houseplants can be just as rewarding as outdoor gardening. Plants in the natural garden rely on nature to meet their needs. Houseplants, on the other hand, rely on the gardener to meet all of their growing requirements. This comprehensive demo will walk you through the basics. Plants in need of id or a little TLC welcome to come as your guest. Plants to swap? A draw will be held for some plant materials at the end of the demo. Please note that this workshop is part of a larger series
March 19th: Family Movie Night – Penguins (Rated – G)
Time & Location: 6:00pm – 7:30pm, Activity Room (3rd Floor, 30 Charles Street West)
Disneynature’s all-new feature film “Penguins” is a coming-of-age story about an Adélie penguin named Steve who joins millions of fellow males in the icy Antarctic spring on a quest to build a suitable nest, find a life partner and start a family. None of it comes easily for him, especially considering he’s targeted by everything from killer whales to leopard seals, who unapologetically threaten his happily ever after.
Bring your pillows and stuffies to get cozy. Delicious popcorn will be provided. Children under the age of 12 need to be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required. Our Program is free-of-charge and reserved for UFH families only.
March 21st: Family Movie Night – Elephant (Rated – G)
Time & Location: 6:00pm – 7:30pm, Activity Room (3rd Floor, 30 Charles Street West)
Narrated by Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, Disneynature’s “Elephant” follows African elephant Shani and her spirited son Jomo as their herd make an epic journey hundreds of miles across the vast Kalahari Desert, from the Okavango delta to the Zambezi river, just as countless generations of their ancestors have done before.

March 22nd: Family Movie Night – Dolphin Reef (Rated – G)
Time & Location: 6:00pm – 7:30pm, Activity Room (3rd Floor, 30 Charles Street West)
Narrated by Oscar®- and Golden Globe®-winning actress Natalie Portman, Disneynature’s “Dolphin Reef” tells the spectacular story of Echo, a young Pacific bottlenose dolphin who seems far more interested in exploring the coral reef, and its intriguing inhabitants, than learning to survive in it.

March 23rd: Kids’ Planet Protector Club + Glow in the Dark Play for Earth Hour!
Planet Protector Club (ages 6-16)
Time & Location: Various times, Activity Room (3rd Floor, 30 Charles Street West)
Get some fun-filled training to be the Protector of our Planet. Engage, discuss and learn about our environment with our passionate team of Sustainability Education. Children will be awarded with a “Planet Protector Certificate”. Spaces are limited and registration is required.
There are three time slots available, please only register for one time:
- Group A: 7:30pm – 8:00pm
- Group B: 8:00pm – 8:30pm
- Group C: 8:30pm – 9:00pm
Glow in the Dark Play (Parent and Child, ages 0-5)
Time and Location: 7:30pm – 9:00pm, Drop-in Centre (3rd Floor, 30 Charles Street West)
Bring your young ones to play in the dark during the Earth Hour with a minimum use of electricity but maximum fun! Creative activities designed by our Drop-in Centre Supervisor, Susan. She is an amazing educator with years of experiences in family resource programs.
Children must be accompanied by an adult. Spaces are limited and registration is required.
