Recreation Room
35 Charles, 2nd floor
The Recreation Room is a multipurpose wifi equipped space that includes a kitchenette and can be booked by residents for private events. The Recreation Room is available for booking 7 days a week, from 9 am – 12 pm, 1 – 4 pm, and 5 – 9 pm. Residents are restricted from making multiple bookings at a time so that everyone has an opportunity to use the facilities.

The Lounge
35 Charles, 2nd floor
The Lounge is located directly across from the laundry rooms on the 2nd floor of 35 Charles Street. It’s a bright and cheerful space, a wonderful spot to relax in while your laundry is being done, to meet with a couple of friends and chat, or maybe read a book or study. This room is open every day from 9:00 am to 10:00 pm, and does not need to be booked. This lounge is a shared space available for all residents to use. You are very welcome to bring your children to the lounge, but please note that children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times.
Playground
South side of 35 Charles, on St. Mary’s Street, beside garage entrance
This is a great place to meet your neighbours, and for kids to make new friends. Please don’t litter – help to keep the playground clean. For the safety of all children, please see that the driveway gate remains locked.
Please note that dogs are not permitted in the fenced-in areas and the playground area (excluding service animals). This policy reflects similar restrictions in the Toronto Municipal Code Chapter 608, Parks, which prohibit pets on playgrounds and in other public areas.

The Study Room
30 Charles, 3rd floor
The Study Room is a quiet, wifi-equipped study space that is open 24/7. No booking is required. However, there is a capacity limit of 14 people and access is on a first come, first served basis.

The Drop-in Centre
30 Charles, 3rd floor
The Drop-In Centre is staffed by dedicated Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECE), a Drop-In Centre supervisor, Community and Recreation staff, and volunteers. It offers a welcoming space for University Family Housing parents and guardians with children from birth to five years old to connect, share experiences, and enjoy quality time together. Children can explore, play, and learn through sensory activities, arts and crafts, storytelling, creative play, circle time, and gross motor experiences that support their skill development. Children must be supervised and accompanied by parents, guardians, or caregivers. Adults are encouraged to interact, join in and actively participate in meaningful fun-filled play-based activities with their children. This program is free and available exclusively to families living at University Family Housing residence.
The Rooftop Garden
30 Charles, 3rd floor
Built in 2003-2004, this project transformed 10,000 square feet of unused cement terrace into a beautiful roof garden that makes a significant contribution to the environment.
The Rooftop Garden is open daily from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm from approximately May 1 – October 31.
BBQs, large private parties, smoking and alcohol consumption are prohibited. Please ensure your children are supervised at all times when visiting the Rooftop Garden.
Make sure the sandbox is covered after you finish using it. Please do not leave toys behind; any items left unattended will be disposed of without notice.
Please note that dogs are not permitted on the Rooftop Garden (excluding service animals). This policy reflects similar restrictions in the Toronto Municipal Code Chapter 608, Parks, which prohibit pets on playgrounds and in other public areas.

The Free Store
30 Charles, 3rd floor
The Free store works entirely on donations. Residents drop off items that have been gently used and clean. They are then sorted by Community & Recreation staff and put on display in the Free Store and then, when the store is open, residents come and pick out what they would like for free. All residents are welcome to shop and/or donate.

Bulletin Boards
Bulletin boards where residents can post notices advertising events or items for sale are located in the lobbies of both buildings. Notices may be posted in other languages, but all must include a complete English translation. These notices are removed weekly.
Bulletin boards maintained by Community Life are located in the lobby of both buildings and on every floor. The boards are dedicated to important building information, educational displays, and events happening both on and off campus of particular interest to residents.
The RAs and the entire Community Life team put a great deal of time and energy into these boards to keep our community informed. Vandalism or altering the boards in anyway is unacceptable. If you see someone altering the boards, please contact security. Questions or concerns about the posted information may be directed to communications.ufh@utoronto.ca.
