Theft Prevention and Personal Safety Tips for Vehicles and Bicycles

With property theft as a persistent issue in downtown Toronto, we felt it important to remind residents of some suggestions to ensure the continued safety of their belongings:

Vehicles

  • Completely close and lock doors and windows.
  • Never leave your vehicle unattended with the engine running, even for a few seconds. Turn off the ignition and take the keys with you.
  • Never leave personal identification or valuables in your vehicle.
  • Remove technologic and other removable accessories from view when not in your vehicle.

Bicycles

  • Always lock your bike with two quality locks; use a U-lock and a cable lock.
  • Using the U-lock, lock the frame of your bike to the bicycle rack and with a long cable lock “intertwine” the cable lock to the bike frame, wheels and bike rack.
  • Remove all quick release items (e.g., wheels, seat) and bring them with you.
  • Register your bike with Toronto Police.

For additional information and suggestions, visit the City of Toronto and Toronto Police websites. We also have advice and safety tips listed on our website here.

Laundry Room Rules and Etiquette Reminder

This is a friendly reminder of the rules and etiquette we ask all residents to follow when using our communal laundry rooms at 30 and 35 Charles Street.

  • If your load has finished its cycle and you are not there to move the clothes, other residents are entitled to remove your clothes to free up a machine. Please do not remove someone’s clothes from a machine before the cycle is complete.
  • Please do not use any kind of dye in the washing machines or wash floor mats or rugs. Pet bedding is also not allowed as the fur can clog and damage the machines.
  • If your clothes have excess pet hair, please try to remove as much of it as you can before washing. Once your load has finished, please clean out the washing machine drum and door seal to remove any additional hair and debris left behind.
  • We have pet-free and scent free machines available to accommodate residents with allergies or sensitivities. Please leave these machines for those who need them.
  • Out of courtesy for your fellow residents, please clean up any spills you make.

Please visit our website for additional information on the laundry rooms.

Garbage Chute Reminder

The garbage chute is for small bags of garbage only. Anything that doesn’t comfortably fit in the chute must be disposed of in the large brown bins in the disposal area located at street level. Our cleaning and operations staff have repeatedly found large items stuffed down the chute, which damages the trash compactor. To address the issue, an elevator must be put on service, resulting in longer wait times, especially at peak hours and in 35 Charles where the elevator modernization project is underway.
