If your family is expanding with the addition of a new child, apartment transfers to a larger unit are possible if you have lived at 30 or 35 Charles for at least one year.

Wait times are 1.5 years. You will be offered an apartment a maximum of two times before being removed from the waitlist.
Who is eligible?
You are eligible to apply for an apartment transfer if all the following conditions apply to your family:
- You have lived in your current apartment for at least 12 months before applying for a transfer.
- You have recently expanded or will soon expand your family by giving birth, adopting a baby, or becoming pregnant after moving in.
- You have upheld the terms of your current lease agreement.
We do not allow apartment transfers for reasons other than expanding your family with the addition of a new child. This includes, but is not limited to:
- A change in apartment preference, such as moving to a smaller or larger unit, to a higher or lower floor, or to an apartment with a different view.
- Issues related to noise or community disturbances.
Required Documentation
To assess your eligibility for a transfer to a larger unit, we require documentation such as:
- Child’s birth certificate
- Note from a medical provider confirming pregnancy and the due date
- Proof of adoption, such as an adoption certificate, court order, or a letter from the adoption agency.
How do I apply?
Applying for an apartment transfer is done through StarRez. The primary student resident must log in with their UTORid to access the transfer application. Unfortunately, due to this requirement, the secondary resident cannot complete the application.

What happens after I submit my application?
Next Steps
Once you have submitted your application, we will pre-screen your eligibility. This process will take up to 7-10 business days to complete.
- If you are eligible, you will receive an email confirming that your application has been approved. You can view your waitlist position number in real time through the StarRez on your transfer application.
- If you are not eligible, you will receive an email informing you that you did not meet the eligibility requirements for an apartment transfer.
Screening process
All apartment transfers are subject to review and approval by the Admissions Office, and approval is not guaranteed.
- When your application is close to the top of the waitlist we will review your tenancy at UFH to ensure you have upheld the terms of your current lease agreement, which many include an apartment inspection.
- Examples of lease violations include but are not limited to:
- Not maintaining your apartment in clean and good condition
- Failing to pay rent on time or in full at any time
- Using illegal appliances
- Subletting
- Tampering with devices or services within your unit.
Cancelling Your Application
- If you no longer wish to transfer apartments, please visit your transfer application on the StarRez and select “Cancel My Application” to remove yourself from the waitlist.
- If you have canceled your transfer application and wish to apply again, please email the Admissions Office at studentadmissions.ufh@utoronto.ca to inform us that you would like to restart your transfer application.
How long does it take?
Wait times
- Standard wait times for apartment transfers are approximately 1.5 years. However, this duration can vary based on several factors, including:
- The apartment preferences you outlined in your application
- The time of year you apply, as we do not typically facilitate transfers during the summer months
- Vacancy rates, including number of apartments becoming available and their sizes
What happens after I’ve been offered an apartment?
- You will have two business days to accept your offer. If the apartment you are offered does not meet your needs, you may decline and be placed back on the waiting list in the same position.
- You will be offered a maximum of two units. If you decline both units, you will be removed from the waiting list. Therefore, it is important to communicate any specific needs within your application or by email as early as possible.
