U of T Celebrates Pride 2022 

June 1^st marks the beginning of Pride Month! Pride Month is an opportunity for the University to celebrate and reflect on the history, courage, and diversity of 2SLGBTQ+ communities. It is also a time to deepen our collective commitment to challenging discrimination, harassment, and infrastructural inequities faced by members of 2SLGBTQ+ communities.  

There are many events happening across the University to celebrate Pride that you can participate in listed here.  

#UFHPRIDE  

University Family Housing is a safe and inclusive space that has a history of welcoming diverse 2SLGBTQ+ residents. In the late 1980s, Admissions Officer, Ellen Giles, admitted the first gay couple into Charles Street, making UofT the first university in Canada to accept a gay couple as a family into its on-campus student housing. We are proud of our history and want to celebrate Pride month by highlighting what Pride means to our residents, their families, and their friends. Check out the lobbies of 30 and 35 Charles next week for a fun activity and contest for Pride! 

Roof Top Garden Spring Festival 

Save Saturday, June 11th in your calendars, it’s the Roof Top Garden Spring Festival! This is the first large outdoor event of the year and is an amazing opportunity for families to gather, enjoy some refreshments, play games, and socialize in the garden on the 3rd floor of 30 Charles Street West. 

To prevent crowding, we ask that residents come during the times noted below for their building: 

• 30 Charles – 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. 
• 35 Charles – 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. 

Residence Life Programming Returns

Furniture Being Left Outside of the Free Store  

It has come to our attention that large furniture and other donations are being left outside of the Free Store, obstructing the door to the store and the hallway to the laundry room. This is a fire hazard and a serious safety concern. Residents are reminded that large donations should not be piled up outside the store and instead disposed of properly in the bulk waste area outside of the building.  

 If you would like to discuss donating larger furniture or items, please do so with the Free Store staff during the open hours of Wednesdays from 6pm – 8pm, or Saturdays from 2pm – 4pm before bringing the items to the store.
