Charles Street Neighbourhood

Child Care Resources

University Family Housing does not provide child care, but there are many child care resources available in the area that we have listed below.

Childcare on Charles

The Childcare Centre on Charles Street is a well-rated daycare operated by George Brown College. It is located at 35 Charles St. West and student families living here have first priority to place their children when spaces are available. Prospective Charles Street Residence families should put their name on the waiting list well before they need a space.

Visit this page, http://familycare.utoronto.ca/childcare/child-care-services/, for more information about this and other childcare centres in the area.

Please also note that when you are planning to move out of Charles Street Student Family Housing, you must also notify the Daycare staff of this, and plan accordingly to locate a new childcare centre space within 3 months of moving out.

Students are not permitted to keep their children in the Childcare Centre on Charles after vacating the residence because the wait list is lengthy and current student residents have priority for the centre. The Family Care Office staff can assist with the process of finding new childcare.

Financial Assistance (Subsidized Spaces)

The Centre operates under provincial license and has a purchase of service contract with the City of Toronto Children’s Services Division that provides fee subsidy for eligible parent/guardians. Parent/guardians wishing to investigate and apply for subsidy must make these arrangements well in advance of the time of registration of their child at the Centre.

Children’s Services has a separate waiting list of their own.

Please refer to the City of Toronto Children’s Services website: http://www.toronto.ca/children/ for more information.
