Lunar New Year Lion Dance – Looking for Participants!
As part of U of T’s Lunar New Year celebrations, University Family Housing is excited to be hosting a traditional Lion Dance performance to celebrate the Year of the Snake! The Lion Dance is a cherished tradition in many Asian cultures and is a symbol of good fortune and celebration.
The performance will be travelling across the St. George campus and making its final stop here at UFH on Friday, January 24th at 4:00pm on the outdoor podium deck at 35 Charles Street West. Please dress warmly as this is an outdoor event!
All residents are welcome and encouraged to attend. We’ll be serving up fresh popcorn and raffling off some U of T swag items! We also have a special opportunity to participate in the event!
We’re looking for four children (13 years old or younger) who would like to be involved by waking-up the lion (dotting ceremony) and feeding the lion with lettuce (money/fortune ceremony).* The performance will last for approximately 5-10 minutes. Please fill out this form if your child is interested in participating.
*Please note that due to the limited number of participant spots available, the selection will be done on a first to respond basis. Additionally, this event will be photographed and filmed and so photography consent will be required to participate. If your child has secured a participation spot you will be contacted directly by a UFH staff member.
