30 Charles Elevator Modernization: New Elevator Call Buttons
The new elevator is currently communicating on the old elevator and hallway buttons system. This means the new elevator is capable of shuttling people up, but not responding to the hall calls on the floors yet. This is a normal (and most frustrating) part of the elevator modernization project as we wait for the second elevator car to be modernized. Once the second elevator is modernized, the contractor will be installing new hall call buttons on every floor which will result in the dispatching system fully transitioning into the new setup. The contractor strongly recommends the dispatch’s system not be switched over at this point as it would risk major elevator disruption and communication issues with the two older operating elevators. This configuration allows the two modernized elevators to dispatch efficiently, with the old service elevator providing additional support without disrupting the system when used independently. It is similar to what was done at 35 Charles and the best way to limit disruptions during a modernization project. We completely understand that this can be frustrating, but this is ultimately the best way to limit elevator disruption during this process.
Updated: 30 Charles West Stairwell Exit Refresh
Please be advised that the exterior portion of the West Stairwell at 30 Charles will be undergoing a plaster and paint refresh between August 21st and August 24th.
We request that residents please try and minimize their use of the exterior portion of the west stairwell between August 21st to August 23rd by using the elevator where possible. If use of the stairs is unavoidable, please be mindful of the work being done and pay extra attention to wet paint signs.
The external stairs will be painted on Saturday August 24th. The external portion of the stairwell will be closed from Saturday, August 24th to Sunday August 25th to allow the paint to dry. Please use the center and east stairwells to exit the building, and the lobby to enter the building as required. A diagram displaying the alternative exits and entrances will be posted alongside this notice. This west exit can still be used in emergency situations for evacuation.
